2020 Downtown Yakima Mile Presented by Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton Yakima

Volunteer for the 2020 Downtown Yakima Mile Presented by Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton Yakima

We would like to invite EVERYONE to run, jog, or walk The Downtown Yakima Mile by Home2 Suites and Tru by Hiltong. With 11 heats it is our sincere hope that you find a race that suits you or better yet challenges you. We truly want members of the whole community to join us!

Through the generosity of our presenting sponsor, Home2 Suites and Tru by Hilton Yakima, the Downtown Yakima Mile will be free of charge for every youth under 18 years old and will receive a shirt.

Ultimately, whether you are a participant or spectator you are expressing your commitment to fostering a healthy community where everyone feels inspired and welcomed, with a little healthy competition mixed in!

We're always looking for volunteers both the day before and day of the event as well, so if you or any friends or family would like to register as a volunteer, we'd love to have you! Please CLICK HERE FOR VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION

12pm-5pm Help register racers one day before the race.
Shift Time: 2:30pm-5:30pm Do you love interacting with people who are energized and excited? We need you to help at the registration and information booth! You will be helping people with the packet pick up, along with providing information about the race. These booths are sponsored by the GESA Credit Union.
Shift time: 1:30pm-3:30pm It takes a village to build one, and we need your help to create this amazing day. Everything from setting up tents and booths to roping off the finish line and prepping the refreshments table. We need YOU to help get the party started! Be sure to wear some comfy clothes and shoes! **Friends are welcome! Bring a buddy!**
Shift time: 8:00pm-9:30pm Enjoy the cool, summer night air more than mid-day heat? Help us tear down and clean up after a successful day of races. The shortest shift of them all, but still just as vital. You'll be helping to make sure we return the area to its normal beauty by packing up tents, tables and clearing the race course. **Friends are welcome! Bring a buddy!**
Shift time: 5:00pm-8:30pm The trains that run through the center of Downtown Yakima is the greatest unknown variable for this entire event. In order to secure the safety of all of our runners and volunteers, we need a brave group of people to camp out at Harlan Landing, right outside of Selah, to notify us if a train is heading into town.
Shift Time: 5:00pm-7:15pm We have invited the best of the best to come and try to break the fastest Washington State mile record. We want to make sure they are taken care of. Help them stay organized, get to the starting line on time, and make sure their pre-race gear stays safe. If you've ever wanted to interact with Olympian level athletes, here's your chance!

Shift Time: 4:30pm-9:00pm Are you loud? A little fearless? WE NEED YOU! The starting line is where everyone is going to gather for their heat and things can get a little hectic. You'll be the one organizing the runners along the start line to make sure everyone has a fair take off. You will also be ushering in the next heat of runners once one heat has left. Be prepared for some loud, fast paced action!
Shift time: 5:00pm-8:15pm Our race crosses a few railroad tracks. We want to keep our runners as safe as possible, so we need volunteers to wave signs notifying runners of the railroad tracks ahead. **Friends are welcome! Bring a buddy!**
Shift Time: 4:30pm-9:00pm First place can come down to the wire, but we don't want our runners to just stop moving after they cross the line. You'll be helping move them along towards the finishers' area. **Friends are welcome! Bring a buddy!**
The Lost and Found volunteers will be responsible for corralling lost items (including children) so they can be claimed by their rightful owner.
5:00pm-7:00PM Help us keep our spectators in the race spirt. Pass out pom poms, coupons, necklaces, and food items in between race heats - or - help keep racers moving at the finish line.
